Statement from the RCSO

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (Thursday, June 5, 2025) - Over the past week, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been working closely with a partnering agency from Utah to conduct surveillance on an unidentified male subject believed to be involved in drug trafficking operations originating in Utah.

The subject, later identified as Jairo Roney Cabrera-Escoto, was residing in Rowan County under a false identity. Detectives with the Special Investigations Unit were able to successfully locate Cabrera-Escoto and, with the assistance of the Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on June 4, 2025.

Through investigative efforts, Cabrera-Escoto was positively identified and determined to have been evading law enforcement for approximately ten years. He was a fugitive from Utah authorities and has been evading arrest since 2015.

This arrest is a testament to the strong collaboration between agencies and the dedication of our investigators in locating and apprehending individuals who pose a threat to public safety. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the deputies from C- squad patrol team who responded quickly and assisted SIU in the apprehension of this fugitive.
