Update:
On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at approximately 3:29 am, the Miller Ferry Fire Department responded to a single vehicle wreck on Long Ferry Road near Dukeville Drive.
When they arrived, they located a Ford Taurus that had ran off the roadway and struck a guy wire. The single occupant of the vehicle matched the description of the burglary suspect. The firefighters on scene notified telecommunicators who dispatched deputies to the scene.
Deputies responded and found Steven Eugene Bracken II to be the operator and only occupant of the vehicle. He later confessed to deputies that he was at the scene of the burglary and that he had been confronted by the homeowner. Some of the items that had been stolen from the home, were located inside the vehicle that Bracken was driving at the time of the wreck. Bracken did not appear to have any injuries as a result of the shot that was fired at him by the homeowner.
Bracken was charged with Breaking and Entering (Misdemeanor) and Larceny After Breaking and Entering (Felony). He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center with a $50,000.00 secured bond.
