NORTH CAROLINA — The U.S. Marshals Service continues to search for John Kenneth Capps, a convicted sex offender who has been on the run since 2015 after allegedly staging his own death.
Capps, now 52, is wanted for violating the terms of his supervised release and failing to register as a sex offender, a requirement stemming from a previous conviction. A warrant was issued for his arrest by the U.S. District Court in the Middle District of North Carolina in December 2015.
Investigators believe Capps attempted to fake his death by orchestrating what appeared to be a drowning incident off the coast of Florida. Authorities say the scene was meant to mislead law enforcement and the public into thinking he had died at sea. He has not been seen since.
Capps is described as a White or Hispanic male, 5’10” tall, weighing approximately 215 pounds, with green eyes and blond or strawberry hair. He has a scar on his left shoulder and may use the alias John K. Capps.
He was born on October 15, 1972, in Oklahoma, but was last known to be in North Carolina before his disappearance.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of John Kenneth Capps is urged to contact the U.S. Marshals Service at (336) 554-8580.
This case remains active, and authorities stress that any tips, no matter how minor they may seem, could help bring Capps into custody.
