Fatal hit-and-run investigation continues in Salisbury; police seek two individuals

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Salisbury Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating two individuals in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Feb. 20, 2026, at South Main Street and Airport Road.
Investigators say the crash involved a passenger vehicle that struck four motorcycles. One motorcyclist died at the scene. The occupants of the vehicle fled after the collision.
Police have identified Victor Hugo Vasquez Morales as a person of interest. He is wanted for questioning.
Detectives are also searching for Tavita Garcia Diaz, 29, who has been identified as one of three individuals involved in the crash. Diaz is wanted on unrelated warrants for identity theft and two counts of possessing a fraudulent identification. She is also being sought in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of either individual to contact Officer Benjamin at 704-638-2117 or submit a tip through Rowan County Crime Stoppers.
The investigation remains active.
