SALISBURY, N.C. — An Iredell County jury has convicted Austin Ray Harmon in a high-profile fatal crash case that claimed the lives of three people, while court records show Harmon also faces separate, unrelated misdemeanor charges pending in Rowan County.

Harmon was found guilty of three counts of felony death by motor vehicle and three counts of serious injury by motor vehicle following a trial stemming from a June 2022 crash on Fort Dobbs Road in Statesville. Prosecutors said Harmon’s vehicle struck a golf cart carrying a father and his two children, killing all three. Several other people were injured in the collision.

The case drew significant attention in Iredell County, with testimony from eyewitnesses, first responders and investigators detailing the moments before and after the crash. The jury returned guilty verdicts on all major counts. Sentencing is scheduled for a later date.

While the Iredell County case has moved into the sentencing phase, Harmon also has an open criminal case in Rowan County, according to District Court records.

Rowan County records show Harmon is charged with defrauding an innkeeper, a Class 2 misdemeanor, and second-degree trespass, a Class 3 misdemeanor, in a case filed Aug. 28, 2025. The Salisbury Police Department is listed as the investigating agency. Both charges remain pending and are unrelated to the fatal crash case in Iredell County.

In addition to the Rowan County case, Harmon has faced further legal trouble in Iredell County, where he was charged in a separate incident involving alleged possession of controlled substances while in custody.

Harmon remains incarcerated as he awaits sentencing in the Iredell County case. The Rowan County charges are still moving through the local court system, and no public court date has been announced. As with all pending cases, Harmon is presumed innocent of the Rowan County charges unless proven guilty in court.
