Salisbury police investigate fatal shooting on Beard Street; suspect charged

SALISBURY, N.C. — A domestic-related incident turned deadly Thursday afternoon on Beard Street, leaving one man dead and two others injured, according to Salisbury Police.


Officers responded around 4 p.m. to the 1200 block of Beard Street after receiving reports of a break-in at a residence. As officers arrived, the situation escalated into a shooting involving multiple individuals.


Police said 40-year-old Sebastian Rankin Jr. was pronounced dead as a result of the incident.


Two other people were injured. A female victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. The suspected shooter was also taken to a hospital with injuries before being taken into custody.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Namyous Dejhmariek’Kali Jackson. He has been charged with first-degree murder.


Investigators said the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute and does not appear to be random.


The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting Salisbury Police with the ongoing investigation.
