SALISBURY, N.C. — Emergency crews responded to a vehicle incident on Interstate 85 at the Yadkin River Bridge, where a vehicle being towed was left hanging off the bridge following a crash, officials said.
Miller’s Ferry Fire Department said the incident occurred earlier in the evening when a tow rig and the vehicle it was pulling were involved in a collision while traveling across the bridge. As a result, the towed vehicle came to rest partially over the edge of the bridge.
Officials said it was initially unclear whether the towing vehicle had gone into the river below. Fire department personnel used boats and sonar equipment to search the water beneath the bridge. No vehicle or person was located during the search, and crews were unable to identify the owner of the vehicle left on the dolly.
Traffic delays were reported on Interstate 85 northbound between mile markers 79 and 84 while emergency operations were underway.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Salisbury Fire Department, Rowan County Rescue Squad, Churchland Fire Department, and Rowan County Emergency Services.
The incident remained under investigation as officials worked to determine the full circumstances of the crash.
