Iredell County Shooting Suspect Killed in Rowan County Crash

Sheriff’s deputies responded early Sunday to assist the North Carolina State Highway Patrol on Neel Road after a vehicle linked to an Iredell County shooting crashed into a tree, killing the suspect.

Investigators said the suspect left the shooting scene in Iredell County and drove to Cleveland in Rowan County, where he went to a friend’s house and swapped vehicles. The friend then followed him in the second vehicle as he drove without headlights.

The suspect’s vehicle later left the roadway on Neel Road and struck a tree. He died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Update: Suspects, Wesley Lee Alexander of Rural Hall, NC was involved in a domestic disturbance in Iredell County, where it’s alleged that he fired shots at the victim before fleeing the scene.
