Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Amtrak Train in Landis, Sheriff’s Office Says

In Landis, North Carolina, a tragic incident occurred where a 48-year-old man lost his life after being hit by an Amtrak train on Tuesday evening in Rowan County, as reported by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies received a call around 9:58 p.m. on November 18 regarding a pedestrian being struck by a passenger train near the 1400 block of Pinnacle Way Drive. Upon arrival, authorities found Luis Javier Marrero Muniz's body on the railway tracks behind the specified location with the assistance of Landis Police officers and emergency services.


An earlier domestic disturbance report involving Muniz was received by Landis Police that same evening. The caller mentioned Muniz's intoxication, his departure before police arrival, and his last known location near the tracks after jumping over a guard rail. The ongoing investigation by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is pending further information from the Medical Examiner’s Office.


Sheriff Travis Allen conveyed his sympathies to Muniz's family during this difficult time.
