SALISBURY, N.C. — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office conducted a three-day undercover operation aimed at identifying possible victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in the county, officials said.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives made contact with 18 individuals during the operation who are believed to be potential victims of sex trafficking or exploitation.
Investigators partnered with Project Light Rowan, a local nonprofit organization that works to raise awareness about human trafficking and provide assistance to victims.
Authorities said the operation focused on identifying victims and connecting them with resources rather than making arrests. No criminal charges resulted from the investigation.
Officials said victim-centered operations help law enforcement identify individuals who may be experiencing exploitation and provide support through community partnerships.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said detectives will continue working with local organizations and service providers to assist individuals who may need help.
Anyone who believes they are a victim of human trafficking or who has information about possible trafficking activity is asked to contact the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office at 704-216-8700. Tips can also be submitted to Rowan County Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245 or through the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.
