WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man faces felony charges after police said he struck two pedestrians in a marked crosswalk Monday evening, killing one and injuring the other.
The Winston-Salem Police Department identified the driver as Maleek Williamson, 25.
Officers responded around 6:56 p.m. to the 800 block of East Sprague Street near Burgundy Avenue. Police said a 2003 Nissan Sentra failed to stop at a marked crosswalk and hit two people crossing the street.
Police identified the pedestrians as Kayla Marie Allen, 28, and Alphonzo Galloway, 50. Allen died at the scene. Galloway suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment.
Investigators said Williamson left the scene after the crash. Officers later located the vehicle and took him into custody after a brief pursuit.
Williamson faces charges including felony hit and run and felony fleeing to elude arrest. Police also charged him with driving while license revoked, use of a borrowed license plate, fictitious registration, and two counts of running a red light.
