Authorities say a Harrisburg house fire that left one man dead was intentionally set and followed by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to updated findings from the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office.
Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office deputies and fire crews responded at about 7:39 a.m. Feb. 14 to a reported residential structure fire in the Abbington neighborhood of Harrisburg. First responders found an adult male deceased inside the home. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and secured the scene.
Investigators first reported the fire and death as an active investigation involving sheriff’s investigators and fire officials.
In a Feb. 16 update, the sheriff’s office said evidence shows the fire was intentionally set by the deceased man during a domestic situation. Investigators also determined the man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officials said no additional details will be released due to the sensitive nature of the case and out of respect for the family.
Sheriff Van W. Shaw issued condolences to the family and asked the community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.
