Teen Charged With Murder in Deadly Shooting at Hartsell Park in Concord

Concord police have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with a deadly shooting at a city park that left one teenager dead and another injured.


According to the Concord Police Department, officers responded at 5:23 p.m. Thursday, April 23, to a reported shooting in the back parking lot of Hartsell Park, located off Sunderland Road SW in Concord.


When officers arrived, they found two 16-year-old males suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was transported to a hospital and remains under medical care. The second victim was pronounced dead at the scene.


Investigators said the suspect, identified as 17-year-old Yanixan Arellanes Silva, had arranged to meet the victims to purchase an item they were selling through social media. During the meeting, a physical altercation broke out, and Silva allegedly fired a gun, striking both victims.


Silva was taken into custody Friday, April 24, and is being charged as an adult. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and failure to report a death.


Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
