CONCORD, N.C. — A Charlotte man has been arrested in connection with a weekend assault at Carolina Mall in Concord, police said.

The Concord Police Department said officers responded around 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, to a reported assault at Carolina Mall, 1480 Concord Parkway N.

Investigators said 38-year-old Mohamed Adams Jr. of Charlotte attacked a man with a baseball bat inside the mall. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening and was released later the same day.

Preliminary findings indicate the assault was not random. Detectives believe Adams targeted the victim, who is a coworker of Adams’ ex-girlfriend.

A warrant for Adams’ arrest was issued Feb. 21. He was taken into custody Monday, Feb. 23, and charged with one count of assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

Adams is being held in the Cabarrus County Jail. The investigation remains ongoing.
