Concord police investigate death of missing 18-year-old woman

CONCORD, N.C. — Concord police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old woman who was found Monday evening after an extended search, authorities said.

Yadira Hernandez Castro of Concord was located deceased around 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 2, according to the Concord Police Department.

Officers said Castro was reported missing by her parents around 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Investigators said she was last seen late Saturday night after leaving a friend’s home on Pine Street Northwest. Family members reported their last phone contact with her around 10:50 p.m.

Search efforts began Sunday and expanded Monday with help from fire personnel and specialized teams. Authorities used K-9 units, ground search crews, and aerial drone support during the operation.

Police said early findings do not indicate foul play. Investigators believe alcohol use and exposure to cold temperatures likely played a role in the death based on preliminary evidence at the scene.

The North Carolina medical examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death.

The investigation remains active. Police said more details will be released when confirmed.
